ILP “Participation” – Microsoft Word: Creating professional-looking forms| lynda.com tutorial, ILP “Design” – Prezi

(1)  Activity Log:

I watched the tutorial one time all the way through. Then I opened my own word document and worked on the table alongside the video.

(2) Description:

This tutorial was for table formatting in Word. I chose this video because I have not fully understood how to make usable tables in Word. The tutorial was very helpful and showed me how to make a table that has lines and borders that do not move when you try to type on the lines. This will be helpful in the education field because teachers have to make permission slips. I remember that while working on the newsletter assignment I could not figure out how to make the lines for the parental signatures without hitting the dash button a lot of times. Now I know how to do it properly.

I will use data collection tools to record and organize student grades. I feel that Excel is a very helpful and easy to use record keeping tool. If I was a kindergarten teacher I would record math quiz and test scores. I would record little spelling and vocabulary skill checks.

I liked seeing the screenshots of the other students assignments, especially the concept maps. People got really creative and it was fun to look see what other people came up with.

I would like to learn how to use Keynote because it is on my computer but I never use it. I would like to know the advantages and disadvantages of using it verse PowerPoint. I would also like to learn more about the many different elements of PowerPoint I have never used before.

Excel, Word, and PowerPoint will be the main technological resources I will be using in my future educational career. Some of my goals include being well organized, creative, and easily understandable. Word will help me be creative in the worksheets I design. Powerpoint will help get the information across in a way that keeps the students attention. Excel will be a big help in the organizational aspects of teaching.

I like the idea of a flipped classroom. Where students watch informative videos on their own time and class time is used for discussion and interactive activities and exercises. The lecture videos can be recorded by the teacher or taken from different sources. One source I found that contained these educational videos is Khan Academy (www.khanacademy.org/).

http://www.preschoolprintables.com/ is a great web resource that can be very helpful for teachers of many difference grades and levels. They have online games for students. The grades range from preschool and kindergarten all the way up to eighth grade. The site is simple and easy to navigate. The images are clear and colorful and this will make the students want to use the website. The website even has free charts and worksheets that teacher can print.

I really enjoyed making the interactive PowerPoint. I learned how to make hyperlinked buttons and I had never used sound in a powerpoint before. I think this could be very helpful in a high school classroom. The students often benefit from a break from the traditional classroom lectures. Mini jeopardy games can be created that make reviewing for tests and quizzes fun and interactive. Next time would improve the Powerpoint by taking screen shots of the images rather than finding the pictures on google. This is because some of the photos have lower quality and are slightly unclear at points. Overall I hope you all enjoy my mini TV show quiz.

Out of all the advancement I think that Cloud Computing
holds a lot of promise for education. Cloud computing is the storage of programs and user data over the internet rather than your computer hard drive.
It easily facilitates information sharing between students, teachers, the school, and parents.

The digital divide is the gap between people who don’t have and do have access to technologies and or the internet at home or school. I am on the side of the divide that has access to technology and resources to learn about getting the most from the technology. The digital divide will affect classrooms in that each student may not have the same level of knowledge about the use of these technologies. This will mean the teachers may have to tailor certain lessons to those students who don’t have a printer at home, or that don’t have internet access. I will make myself an approachable teacher. A person students feel comfortable confiding in. Then they will not feel afraid to tell me if they don’t have access to the technologies at their home, and then the school can compensate them.

I learned how to take the background off of images so the white does not show against the slide backdrop. I enjoy PowerPoint and I think it is very useful in a classroom setting. I like the amount of creativity PowerPoint allows you to explore. Next time I would figure out a way to make the font size of the words in the table bigger without making the table its self-larger. I will use PowerPoint while teaching a class, it will help explain the lessons they need to learn.

Adaptive technologies are used to assist students with physical and learning disabilities. I haven’t used any such technologies. My sister has a learning disability but she hasn’t used any of the computer input and output programs listed in the podcast. She receives extra time on her tests and flexible grading on assignments.

Adaptive technologies might pose a challenge in the classroom because not every student will be using it. This means that the teacher will have to increase planning to include that new technology. The teacher needs to figure out how to incorporate it into the classroom. However, it has been shown that adaptive technology can also be used as tools for students that are not disabled. If the technologies are used for all the students it makes the teachers job a little easier.

PowerPoint can be used to teach students about Blooms three domains of educational activities. One slide could show the pyramid with all the domains listed. This gives the students a visual to work from. The next three slide would be each domain broken down and shown with more detail. For example, there are the cognitive skills, also referred to as mental skills or knowledge. This slide could have an image of a brain to emphasize the cognitive aspects. The next slide could talk about the Psychomotor domain or the physical or manual skills we posses. This slide could show someone exercising. The last domain is Affective. This refers to the attitudes we hold about our self and our emotional growth.

Creating the Weebly was fun. I learned how to hyperlink words and phrases to make the information easily available. The site had lots of different images available to choose from. This was nice because it allowed us to use the images without having to cite our sources. The site did have some glitches. For example, at one point in the process, I was adding a new text box, and the site would not let me type in the box. The cursor kept jumping to the top of the page. I had to log out and refresh the page to make it work properly. Next time I will learn how to embed a calendar and I will add more information about the field trip locations. Knowing how to make a website is very important for future teachers because it allows them to communicate more effectively with parents and students.

The school website that I visited was University of Maine, a school my brother is going to attend next fall. When I first arrive at the website there was a nice picture front and center of happy students smiling. This is good because it automatically gives you a good feeling about the place. The website allows a large amount of access without having log-in privileges. This is because the website is designed to give information to prospective students and their families. There is information on admission, majors, campus events, and research. The website is designed well because it is aesthetically pleasing and it gives large amount of information in an organized way. The website even offers quick links for easy searching.

When I am a teacher I envision myself using technology to aid students that have certain disabilities. Technology can be extremely helpful in special education and can help the students make big improvements. Technology can help teachers stay organized. When you are organized, your day seems to flow better, even if it doesn’t go completely according to plan. When you are organized you have more time to give to your students directly. This will also help to keep stress levels lower.

The Web Evaluation Wiki was slightly difficult to use, but it seemed like a useful resource for schools and educators to connect with parents and students. I liked that the Wiki was collaborative. This allowed for different opinions and interesting ideas which helped our group come up with good evaluation questions. We didn’t like the aspect of the website that erased part of what we had done, even after we saved our work. We learned that it is best to work from a word document and email files back and forth. A future career in education require teachers to know how to use these sites. It is important to learn how to use them now, before we are teaching.

Blackboard LMS (learning management system) is a very useful technology in the classroom. It is necessary to have access to the internet in order to use this tool. So students and teachers would need access to a computer, and or a device that can access the school’s network. A "peripheral" is an external device that can be plugged into a variety of ports of a storage device. So there is no periphery equipment necessary when using the LMS Blackboard technology.

Blackboard LMS learning management system is a very useful technology in the classroom. This tool is very helpful because it allows easy retrieval of grade information and assignment submission. The professors and teachers can easily communicate with students in the announcement section of Blackboard and this helps with student achievement. Students have access each of their classes information in one place which is very helpful when it comes to organization.

Another way Blackboard is a great educational program is because it can easily connect you to your school email account. This allows the students to be more connected with their classes and events on campus. Teachers can also assign students quizes through blackboard. This not only saves paper, but also allows the student to tackle the quiz at a time that works for them, while allowing them to see their score instantly after they finish.

I enjoyed making the concept map. It reminded me of studying for my high school U.S History class. I made lots of study guides in high school, but I have never made a concept map as a study tool. I may start using them now because I liked how it is easy to see all of the material at once. Getting to see the big picture and the whole event would be helpful for students who are visual learners. I also enjoyed adding the clip art graphics to the map. Next time I think I could improve the map by connecting more of the points together. There are some less related things could be connected that I didn’t see the first time. For example, under the Allies box where it says "The U.S.A" could have been connected directly to the date the U.S.A become involved in the war.
